Page 1 Recruitment is delighted to partner with an engineering company committed to revolutionising energy and transportation through innovative and cost-effective solutions, paving the way for a net-zero future for all. As part of their ambitious growth plans for 2024, our client is currently seeking a Head of Product Design to join their UK-based product team.

The ideal candidate will drive the product design vision, ensuring seamless collaboration among stakeholders for successful launches, upgrades, and issue resolutions. As the catalyst for innovative design solutions, you’ll merge customer insights from Africa with engineering teams in the UK and supply chain managers in the Far East, ensuring holistic alignment for product success.

About the role:

• Lead the entire product design lifecycle: Conceptualisation, development, launch, evaluation, and iteration.
• Ensure timely, budget-friendly, and high-quality product design delivery.
• Prioritise and oversee the product design process, defining clear design objectives and acceptance criteria.
• Take ownership of technical drawings documentation, such as electrical schematics, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Develop and implement best practices for design processes, including part numbering, data management, and product review.
• Collaborate with operations to identify and resolve design-related supply chain issues.
• Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and sales teams to ensure seamless integration of design into the product lifecycle.
• Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams, fostering synergy between the UK, Africa, and the Far East.
• Occasional travel to Africa or the Far East may be required.

About You:

• Inquisitive mindset with a passion for continual improvement.
• Experience in managing product design and supply chain processes.
• Proven track record in leading design teams.
• Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and proficient project planning skills.
• Degree-level qualification with relevant commercial experience.

Bonus Points:

• Knowledge of electronics and its application in product design.
• Additional experience in supply chain management.
• Proficiency in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
• Background in solar systems design is advantageous.
• Ability to identify new vendors and source components effectively.
